Checklist: What to bring for a Bed & Breakfast road trip?

  • toothpaste & toothbrush
  • shampoo
  • an air mattress in case the bed is uncomfortable (e.g., too firm)
  • sweatpants
  • warm socks
  • toilet paper
  • extra phone battery
  • backpack
  • plastic bag
  • dish towel & hand towel
  • dishwasher tablets
  • medicine kit (painkillers, bandages, wound ointment, tweezers, small scissors)
  • pens
  • extra shoes that don’t cause blisters
  • spare glasses
  • small pillow
  • plastic bag for trash on the road
  • baby wipes for the journey
  • umbrella
  • sandals
  • slippers

Important to check:

  • The check-in time (some Bed & Breakfasts only open at 4:00 PM).
  • What type of coffee machine is available (pods, instant, or filter coffee).
  • Use Google Street View to explore the surroundings, parking (sometimes entrances are narrow), and the entryway (to locate the B&B).

Other tips:

  • Check if parking is available and whether there are any fees.
  • Find out what type of breakfast is served and if it fits your diet.
  • Verify if pets are allowed, if applicable.
  • Check if there is a pool or wellness area in case you need swimwear.
  • Know the check-in and check-out times.
  • Ask for the best way to reach the location.
  • Check if there are any nearby attractions you want to visit.
  • Confirm if Wi-Fi is available.
  • Check if there is a fridge, microwave, or other kitchen facilities.
  • Review house rules, such as smoking policies.
  • Confirm if there is a washing machine and dryer available.
  • Check for options to store luggage if you leave before check-out time.
  • Ask about the nearest supermarket or shops.
  • Inquire about dining options or food delivery services.
  • Ask about late arrival procedures.
